MACRI’s 3rd Annual General Assembly last Saturday 25 April 2009 was very lively and fruitful. It was attended by 38 members.

The program commenced with a very invigorating presentation by the President – “Energizing Creativity & Innovation – A Preview of Exciting Events in 2010”. In his usual passionate manner, Dato’ Ghazi kept the audience enthralled with fresh ideas flowing freely. Dato’ Ghazi also spoke with enthusiasm the wonders and versatility of bamboo which was the theme and focus of the Creativity & Innovation week held at the National Science Center from 15 to 21 April. He challenged members to create new and innovative uses from bamboo. The ultimate challenge - a vehicle created from Bamboo using green technology, namely NGV (Natural Gas for Vehicles) .

In conclusion he stressed that MACRI should capitalize on the strength and talents of its members. He welcomed members to participate actively and contribute creative ideas. He singled out Mr. Ooi Seng Chye as an innovator with a exciting ideas to advocate “Unity “ through his balloon sculptures and proposed animation series.

At the Annual General Assembly, the President acknowledged Bugs Tan’s decision to step down as MACRI Vice President due to health reasons. Dato’ Ghazi expressed his appreciation to Bugs Tan and his pivotal role as co-founder of MACRI. Bugs had contributed significantly towards MACRI’s growth and good reputation. In appreciation, a special token – a collection of bamboo crafts and innovations was presented to Bugs Tan.

Mr. HP Lem, Exco Member of MACRI accepted the invitation to serve as the Acting Vice President. The Annual General Assembly proceeded till 12.35p.m with great hope and aspiration for an exciting year ahead.

MACRI is grateful to the Malaysian Intellectual Property Organization (MyIPO) for hosting the talk and the Annual General Assembly in conjunction with the National IP Expo 09. The participation of 10 members at the MACRI pavilion at the National IP Expo augers well for the innovators and is a show of MACRI’s support towards IP awareness.
