Julian’s Love Affair With Bamboo – An inspiration to all

.
The talk by Julian Shori on his Love Affair with Bamboo at our Face to Face Forum on 27 June, Saturday was very well appreciated by the audience. Clearly more of them seem to have fallen in love with the beauty of bamboo. Mr. Sundram is perhaps one of them gauging from his response and eagerness to participate in the Bamboo Study Group.
One of the highlights of Julian’s presentation was his interview with the Bamboo Queen in Bali, Linda Garland. He narrated the amazing journey of an Irish women who settled in Bali 20 over years ago and has designed luxurious bamboo houses for celebrities such as David Bowie and Richard Branson. Another compelling highlight was the time lapse photography showing the construction of the Green School in Bali designed by architect John Hardy. GREEN SCHOOL BALI - Heart of School time lapse photography was undertaken by Julian and his partner Valarie. You can view this intriguing shot on You Tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OebBgjdDkY
Julian once again reinforced the facts and beauty, as well as the versatility and potential of bamboo as a materials of the future. From furniture to activated carbon and clothing to construction, bamboo has such a wide range of application that is greener than most other materials.
In his concluding remarks our President Dato Ghazi Sheikh agreed that the misconception of bamboo as a poor man’s material must be corrected and its commercial potential must be fully explored. As an organization that advocates creativity, MACRI would be in the forefront if we could address these challenges and embark on an iconic project with bamboo as the central theme. Towards this end MACRI in collaboration with the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia (FRIM) is in the midst of planning the Integrated Planet Bamboo Project within the Kepong Botanical Gardens in FRIM. This project would offer our creative thinkers and innovators a unique platform to conceptualize new ideas utilizing bamboo. Dato Ghazi welcomes members to pitch in their thoughts by contacting our Vice President, Mr. HP Lem (hplem993@gmail.com) who is also coordinating the 8 Study Groups.
Warm regards and best wishes.
See you at our next Face to Face Forum networking session on 25 July 09, Saturday.
