MACRI has forged a close alliance with a new partner to promote creativity and innovation in Sarawak. Thanks to the catalytic role of our President Dato’ Ghazi Sheikh Ramli and the equally dynamic Vice Chancellor of University Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Prof Dr. Khairuddin Ab Hamid, the collaboration was discussed, agreed upon and officially sealed via an MoU in less than 24 hours. This MoU is a record for both MACRI and UNIMAS.

The MoU signing ceremony at the UNIMAS Campus in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak was graciously witnessed by YB Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation. Also present at this auspicious occasion were YB Tuan Hj Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Minister; Y.Bhg. Datin Madinah Mohamad, Secretary General, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation; Mr. Peter Songan, Deputy VC for Research & Innovation and other senior officials of MOSTI and UNIMAS. MACRI was also represented by our Vice President Mr HP Lem who heads the Bamboo Forum Circle .

The MoU paves the way for our collaboration to promote creativity in Sarawak and also develop innovation, in particular renewable energy, and natural resources like bamboo. Dato’ Ghazi is very elated and encouraged that MACRI’s iconic project on Bamboo will receive a major boost with UNIMAS’s coming on board to play an active role.

UNIMAS with its vast expertise and resources for R & D is also very well positioned to play a lead role in the Sarawak Corridor Renewable Energy (SCORE). This is another area with great potential which our President has paved the path for our members to participate.

The collaborations with UNIMAS was discussed in the sidelines of MACRI’s participation in the Sarawak Innovation & Creativity Carnival which was held from 14 to 16 August 09 in Kuching. Sarawak is the first state to organize this event as part of the preparations for the Year of Innovation & Creativity 2010. We expect more interesting happenings in the coming months and hope that you will be able to participate more actively.
